QUMS is an extremely social society. As well as rehearsal every Wednesday night we also get together after rehearsal for coffee. This will usually be held at a chorister's house or at one of the local coffee shops.
We also hold a semesterly QUMSians' Day Out. This gives us an opportunity to get to know our new members better, introduce them to the rest of the choir, and have some fun while we're at it. Past activities for this have included Tenpin Bowling, Karaoke, Picnics, and Movies.
Throughout the semester we will also get together for special events held around Brisbane. For instance, in 2009 a group of QUMSians attended Les Miserable.
At the end of the year we have our formal function - Academic Dinner. This is an opportunity for us all to get dressed up in our best evening wear and "hob nob". Academic Dinner is also the time for us to thank those who have helped out throughout the year - awards are presented to Fresher of the Year, Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Bass of the Year, and QUMSian of the Year (just to name a few).
QUMS typically has three performances a year comprising of a first semester concert, a second semester concert, and an end-of-year/Christmas concert. The material for these concerts ranges from staples of the baroque and classical repertoire to settings of modern pieces, with the end-of-year concert typically having a Christmas theme.
In between concerts QUMS will appear at small events such as University of Queensland Market Day, cultural fairs, as well as performing Christmas carols at local shopping centres and public venues.
