Semester Two 2021 - "Carmina Burana"
Our second major concert for 2021 was Carl Orff's classic work Carmina Burana, which is a favourite among choirs the world over.
Carmina consists of a selection of 24 poems, generally in medieval-German Latin, from a manuscript found in Benediktbeurn, Bavaria.
The text describes life and nature in joy and sorrow, with the Wheel of Life a key icon.
QUMS has a tradition of performing Carmina Burana approximately once a decade.
Dr. Robert Stewart returned to conduct us this semester and, as is only appropriate for a work off this magnitude, we joined forces with his Conservatorium singers too!
Our vocal soloists were Annika Hinnrichs (soprano), Dr. Ron Morris (tenor) and Daniel Smerdon (baritone).
Our instrumental accompaniment was provided by Christian Gante (QUMS) and Kylie Los (Conservatorium) on dual piano, with a fantastic selection of percussionists as well.
